NBTF POETRY JAM

Welcome to the National Black Theatre Festival® Midnight Poetry Jam Page! Since 2001 when Mr. Marvtastic had the insight and vision to create the NBTF Midnight Poetry Jam we have had the support of Festival attendees and celebrities alike. Malcolm Jamal-Warner has hosted the jam now for four Festivals! He has also performed his own original spoken word which was a rave at the Jam. Malcolm was not alone in his task... Helena D.Lewis has co-hosted as well as performed. Rounding out the team is Weusi Baraka, the lead coordinator for this event.

Check out who showed up, performed & co-hosted during the 2011 NBTF Poetry Jam!

Due to the overflow crowds at past Festivals the Poetry Slam took place in its largest venue ever in 2005. As in past years, it was an electrifying and inspiring event, proving once again that the spoken word remains an essential component of the cultural landscape.

The Poetry Slam has traditionally been a FREE event, and everyone connected to the Festival is committed to maintaining that tradition. If you would like to play a part in helping to make that possible, you may make a donation in support of the Poetry Slam by using the button to the left. If you are interested in sponsoring this or any other event at the Festival, please email us at NBTF@bellsouth.net and request a sponsorship package.

Help us make the
National Black Theatre Festival® a success!
